"I have exhibited Mathieu Walter's photographs on several occasions because, for me, he is a master of composition. In this series of portraits, I was fascinated by the subject of the Crazy Horse dancers, who can only be photographed with permission. The sensuality of these women in the middle of rehearsal is here enhanced by the photographer's choice of framing and by the reflections of the sets that he wanted to integrate into his compositions."

Mathieu Walter began working at the age of 18 as an assistant to several fashion and advertising photographers, including Jean-François Aloïsi. At the same time, he studied Fine Arts in Paris. Photographer of Haute Couture fashion shows for the houses of Nina Ricci, Torrente, Hanae Mori, he then produced numerous portraits of celebrities (Sonia Rykiel, Emma Thomson, Dustin Hoffmann, Garry Kasparov) for international magazines. He developed a personal photographic work which, thanks to a decisive meeting with Sophie Bernardin, then director of the Crazy Horse, would be the subject of a first exhibition in Paris, later presented in Singapore.
Here, the artist questions the notion of intimacy. How can we define it today? What place does it occupy in a world where Man propagates his image without borders or barriers, where he makes himself visible, becomes exterior?
Patiently, Mathieu Walter watches for each moment, moments of truth because he photographs beings who do not show themselves, taken in situ without direction or complicity, captured through this window or between the handrails of this escalator, recompositions where alchemy operates between the mystery of this silent harmony and the tumult of big cities.
Since 2004, Mathieu Walter has exhibited regularly in Paris, Geneva, London, Monaco, Megève, Cannes, Gstaad, Verbier and Venice.
