“Ramzi is the first painter I discovered and exhibited. Originally from Kurdistan, his painting is deeply imbued with his culture. His landscapes and genre scenes are mysterious and transport us through time. He mixes pastels and oil paint with perfect mastery. He is also a wonderful storyteller in his paintings.”

Stephanie Peyrissac

Ramzi Ghotbaldin was born in 1955 in Khanaquine in Kurdistan,
He graduated in 1975 from the Institute of Fine Arts, Graphic Design Department in Baghdad.

From 1982 to 1990, he joined the Kurdish resistance and lived in the mountains.
After the gassing of Iraqi Kurdistan, he moved to live and work in Iranian Kurdistan. In 1990, he was invited to Paris for an exhibition of Kurdish artists. From that date, Ramzi settled and worked in France. He obtained French nationality.

The artist exhibits regularly in France, Europe, and the United States. In April 2022, he won the Taylor Foundation Painting Prize. Created by Renée Bernard, painter (1906-2004). This prize recognizes a talented artist whose work reveals a science of composition as well as a particular concern for color harmony (transfigured reality, inspiration, poetry, and sensitivity).

"This dual belonging determines the singularity of Ramzi Ghotbaldin and the richness of his memory resolutely nourishes a large part of his first Parisian works. Today, aged 65 and living in France for more than 30 years, he is reaching full maturity, with a career synthesizing cultural elements deeply inscribed in him and an attentive eye for his natural environment.

Situated on the periphery of memory and imagination, Ramzi seeks to express the essence and atmosphere of a place ."
